New Moms Find Company and Comfort
Last week the Provincetown Independent published an article about the MOMS support group at Cape Cod Children’s Place. The journalist, Olivia, and I spoke several times and she sat in on our group for 15 minutes a few weeks ago. I feel she did a really fine job describing our group and the goals to connect and support moms. She interviewed two moms who have attended the group for months, and reading their impressions of the group is my favorite part of this article.
Here are a few quotes from the article, spoken by Cape Cod moms who regularly attend the group.
“The group is informal, Becky will often come with some topics prepared if we want to talk, but usually she just asks, ‘Hey, everybody, what do you want to talk about today?’”
“The first week is such a huge transition, and your hormones are coming down, and you don’t want to feel alone,”
“I realized I hadn’t set anything up for myself in terms of social support,” and goes on to say that without the group she would never have found a community of moms.
My hope is that more moms will reach out, attend moms’ groups, and recognize the power of connecting, sharing and being there for each other during a new and often overwhelming time.
If you are interested in attending this Thursday morning 11:00am-12:00pm group in Eastham, please email eastham@pwsupportcenter.org
There are more groups on the Cape which I share on my Instagram and Facebook pages.
