MOMS group

Each Thursday at 10:00am a group of moms gather for MOMS groups at Cape Cod Children’s Place. Facilitating this group is a highlight of my week! I plan to write a blog each week recapping some of the thoughtful and honest topics these amazing moms’ explore, while certainly maintaining their confidentiality.

Today we talked about tummy time and how most babies are not thrilled with this baby exercise. It’s hard for babies when their upper body and arm strength is in early development. A few minutes each day of tummy time is important for aiding digestion and building neck and upper body strength, thus preparing baby for future movement. As they become stronger, tummy time often become less challenging. We talked about fun games or toys that can be great distractions or ways to engage baby while they are on their tummy.

We also discussed the way babies go through phases. Parents work hard to determine how to understand the phase, and then sweet baby moves on to the next phase. Never a dull moment! One phase is how a 2-3 month old may shift a bit in their wakefulness. They may sleep less during the day, which can be a shift for parents. Now baby may want to “play” or be entertained, so we search to find the space baby prefers best - lying on the floor, lying under a baby gym with toys hanging over her, in a swing, walking around in a baby carrier, being carried in a football hold facing out to look at the world, etc..

Every baby is different, and every day is different. Similar to us adults! You’ll figure it out momma, because you know your baby best.
