What is a postpartum doula?

My approach as a postpartum doula is to listen to your parenting needs and questions and then provide nurturing support, developmental information, and the opportunity for your rest and self-care to encourage the well-being of you and your baby.

Throughout my career, my favorite group of people to support and encourage has been parents. I feel passionate about newborn care, holding babies, breastfeeding, and experiencing your growth and success as parents.

A doula learns your wishes and routines and embraces your family’s goals. A doula may offer ideas to help with the transition your family experiences as new parents. She may help with soothing techniques as you emotionally and physically recover from childbirth. She is trained in child development and infant care and can offer information about feeding, sleeping, and milestones as your baby grows and changes.

A doula is not a medical caregiver and is not available to offer medical treatment.

Speak tenderly to them. Let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of your greeting. Always have a cheerful smile. Don’t only give your care, but give your heart as well.
